Rise:Glasgow provides 6 month unpaid internships for female refugees, providing participants with qualifications, training and experience through our training program and our food trailer.
women with the skills, qualifications and confidence that they need to enter the workplace
women to build new community and join the workforce to support themselves and their families
Rise:Glasgow was founded by Helen Russell in 2019 with help from Emily Bull and funding from UNLTD. Helen has over 5 years experience in working with refugees and asylum seekers in the UK, as well as in The Middle East and Sicily. Rise:Glasgow is dedicated to tackling the barriers that some of refugee women face to gaining employment.
The pilot project saw Rise:Glasgow take on 6 women in April 2019, providing training and qualifications such as Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificates, Customer Service training, as well as kitchen skills and work experience through pop-up events. Covid-19 interrupted our plans for 2020, so we have pivoted and with the support of UNLTD, have purchased our first food trailer. This food trailer will enable us to offer more consistent work experience for the women we work with, and enable us to make the project sustainable more quickly.
This work experience will run alongside our training program, offering holistic training in areas such as personal development, training and accredited qualifications in Food Hygiene, Customer Service and Barista Training, and employability skills such as CV and cover letter writing and interview skills.
